Gellért Baths

Gellért Baths are one of the most popular complexes in Budapest thanks to the properties of its waters and the beauty of its Art Nouveau structure.

Budapest offers a number of attractions. During your holidays you can not skip a visit to its stunning thermal baths. The Hungarian capital is considered a real mecca for thermal lovers and the Gellért Baths are definitely part of its heritage.

Gellért Baths, in Hungarian known as Gellért gyógyfürdo, are a bath complex built in Art Nouveau style between 1912 and 1918, together with its adjacent hotel. During Second World War the baths were severely damaged but later on they were rebuilt and brought back to their original splendor.

Gellért Baths’ healing properties were known since the 17th century during the reign of the Ottoman Empire; by that time there were already a few bath complexes in Budapest. Inside the structure 0ne can admire the beautiful tiles and mosaics that make this place even more charming. In 1927 the baths were expanded with the construction of an artificial wave pool and in 1934 a bubble bath was added to the complex.

The Thermal Waters

Gellèrt Baths have a water temperature that ranges between 27 °C and 40°C. The waters come from 118 springs from Gellert Hill heading all the way to the 12 pools of the complex. They are rich in sodium, calcium carbonate, magnesium, hydrogen, chloride, and sulfate. These waters are suitable for people suffering from respiratory diseases, circulation problems, and inflammation.

The complex offers also hydro massage pools suitable for medical reasons but also for relaxing purposes.

Services

Gellért Baths offer a number of paid services such as massages and mud packing. Inside the complex there is a buffet restaurant, a dental clinic, a solarium, and beauty services such as an hairdresser, a beauty saloon, manicure, and pedicure.

Swimsuits can be rented in the complex. Visitors will be able to use a private locker in order to store their belongings. In addiction to all this, there is also the possibility to change euro into forint.
