Considered by many the most beautiful zoo in Europe, this structure is located just a few steps away from Heroes’s Square and behind the Museum of Fine Arts. The zoo consist of a series of appealing buildings built between 1909 and 1912, as well as a monumental gateway with stone elephants supporting an arch topped with a ring of polar bears. Tall trees will greet you at the entrance of this enchanted place, which is home to more than a thousand species of animals.
The breathtaking Elephant House is characterized by blue domes and a minaret, which resemble an Ottoman mosque. Also the smaller animals houses are full of charm; they were designed during the reconstruction works of 1900. The giraffe house has African influences, the crocodile house has Indian vibes, while the Australian house takes inspiration from old popular houses in the Transylvania region.
